Winner Winner Turkey Dinner

Siope's class was challenged to write a Thanksgiving essay using a list of 85 vocabulary words. Siope told us about it yesterday and expressed how much he wanted to win the contest. His teacher had purchased an assortment of food items that are often found at Thanksgiving dinner and would be giving them away as prizes for her students that participated. Today like normal, Mote and Nic got home from school first. Shortly after the front door opens, and in walks Siope with his arms full. He had won the grand prize! He was so excited to bring home his turkey. And what perfect timing. Ti will not be home with us next week so we are having our Thanksgiving meal together as a family tomorrow. 

Siope's turkey will be at the center of our holiday feast tomorrow :)

Honor Roll: Siope

Siope finished his tombstone project for school. Everything on here was his idea. Whenever I work with the other 2 boys they gladly accept my help and suggestions. That was not the case with this guy. He had a vision and wasn't straying from it. He had no problem turning down my ideas lol. We started with a trip to the dollar store and when all our supplies were gathered we got to start on the tombstone that paid homage to Jedidiah Smith. He probably had the most fun using the glue gun. Here's the finished project.

Ries Elementary 2nd Grade Award Ceremony

Got to attend another award ceremony today. Siope received A/B Honor Roll for the 3rd trimester as well as A/B Honor Roll for the entire school year.

Spelling Bee!

Siope participated in his first Spelling Bee this year. As soon as he found out about it he went right to work studying his list of words. He told us all that he wanted 1st place, nothing less. We were all so nervous and excited for him. His class held their competition and when Ti picked him up Siope came marching out to the car with his trophy in hand. He did it! He won first place. We were so proud of him.

The following week the top 3 from every class went on to The Spelling Bee Championship. Wow, was it intense!!! Slowly the number of kids started to dwindle down. Before we knew it, it was down to 10 kids and Siope was still in it... then he made top 5.... and then it was down to 3 kids... including our Siope! The words started to get more and more difficult. He ended up taking 3rd place and came home with another trophy!! It was so exciting to watch him compete and we are so proud of his hard work and accomplishments.

Student of the Week: Siope Fangupo

Siope was chosen as the Student Of the Week for his class. He came home and filled out his facts without me. He spelled everything right for the most part. There were only a couple misspelled words and I wanted to leave them uncorrected because I thought they were cute, but he got embarrassed and insisted that I tell him the correct spelling. Reading and Spelling are definitely Siope's strengths. He's reading a grade level ahead and it seems to come easily to him. Writing, however is not. It's the 1 thing that has continued to hold him back from receiving straight A's. I know being a lefty can be an excuse to have sloppy handwriting, but we keep telling him he needs to try super hard if he wants to get an A in writing. We took some pictures of him for his little bulletin and I let him choose which one he wanted to paste on his paper. Of course he chose the one of him next to his bike. Most of his facts about himself have remained the same, but there were a couple that surprised me. Apparently his favorite color is now red. I asked him what happened to green, and he said green is his 2nd favorite color. His favorite book is The Book of Mormon, which really caught me off guard. Mote gave a FHE lesson last week for scouts and the kids had so much fun taking turns reading during that lesson. Which I'm guessing is why he put that as his favorite book. His "Proudest Accomplishment" made me laugh. It's totally something he would say... take the easy way out lol. And He's definitely "Happiest When... it's the weekend." =)

Siope's Six!

We've been wanting to get everyone together for one last BBQ before school and Siope's birthday was the perfect opportunity to do so. He turned 6 on August 23rd, so we invited everyone over to hang out. The kids swam, they busted open the pinata, we had some amazing BBQ, and Siope blew out his candle over his cupcake tower. It really was a great night. Lawrence and Samiu ended up sleeping over so we had a slumber party to top things off. The kids had a BLAST!!!
